The Cascades to hold a farewell concert in Roxas City
The Cascades will return to Asia in August 2007 for the last time for their FAREWELL TOUR. Their itinerary will take them to several cities of the Philippines. From Manila, the tour will proceed to Macau and Shanghai, China and end in Sydney, Australia. JOHN GUMMOE, GABE LAPANO, TONY GRASSO and CHUCK CREWS are going back to their solo careers after recording and going on tour for the past three years. Yes, The Cascades are disbanding!
After the group's successful shows in Bacolod and Iloilo last year, promoter Steve O'Neal has decided to the hold the farewell concert in Western Visayas at the newly constructed and fully air-conditioned Capiz Gymnasium on August 14, 2007 at 7:00 o'clock in the evening. The show is in cooperation with Colegio de la Purisima Concepcion led by its Rector, Msgr. Vicente Hilata. O'Neal said that it will be "a token of appreciation" for its thousands of fans in Capiz and the nearby provinces for their four decades of unwavering devotion and support.
The Cascades scored the multi-million selling hit, "Rhythm of the Rain", way back in 1963, with the words and melody that young and old in every corner of the world still know by heart. It survived widely circulated rumors that The Cascades had perished in a plane crash in the early 1970's. The members, after much soul-searching, decided to disband in 1975 to pursue their individual activities.
According to O'Neal when the cascades reunited two years ago, it was with the understanding that its members would perform only for a limited period of time, that's why they took an indefinite leave from their regular jobs. What they did not reckon with was the tremendous and enthusiastic response of millions of fans worldwide, especially in the Philippines, so much so that their engagement as a group had to be extended.
Among those who have watched the sold-out concerts in 2005 and 2006 were Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Vice President Noli de Castro, former Mayor Lito Atienza, MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, and Bacolod City Mayor Bing Leonardia.
For this farewell tour, The Cascades will surely enthrall the audience with their special line-up of old and new songs. Last year, not only did they sing all the hits from their Rhythm Of The Rain album but also had vocal renditions of such songs as Warm Manila Nights, My Manila, All the Way To yesterday, First Love Never Dies, Achy Breaky Heart, Delilah, and It's Not Unusual in their performances.
The group will arrive in Roxas City on August 13, 2007. The itinerary list includes courtesy calls, press conference, appearance at the Gaisano Mall, and visit to the Capiz Bay Resort owned and managed by Engr. Reubin Yap.
Tickets to the Capiz Gymnasium concert are priced at P2,000 (limited seats and with cocktails), P1,000, and P500. Text or call 09209088522 for reservation and sales.
