City to impose new schedule for streetlights
City Mayor Jerry Treñas has ordered new lighting schedule for the city's streetlights in order to save on electricity bills. As this developed, the Task Force Boltahe of the City Engineers Office was ordered to cut-off electrical connections in the gymnasiums with very high electrical bills.
The new lighting schedule for the city's streetlights and the cutting of electrical connections in different gymnasiums is the city's answer to the soaring electrical bills and to contain electricity pilferage.
Treñas said the street lights will now be turned on starting 6:30 in the evening until 5:30 the following morning. He said the city residents wanted a well-lighted streets but they have also to exercise saving measures.
He added that they could not also cut-off electricity power in the city's different streets as it will encourage the commission of crimes. The city's solution is to cut-short the lighting time.
Treñas, on the other hand, did not identify the gymnasiums which will incur disconnection of electricity. He said the bill of one gymnasium alone cost P80,000 per month.
He believes there are people who have illegal electrical connections not only in the city's street lights but in the different gymnasiums.
The chief executive also asked the residents to help in the campaign against electrical pilferage. This is not only the business of the city government but of all the people, he said.
