Task Force to study coal-fired power plant in city formed
A Task Force chaired by City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) chief Noel Hechanova was created by Mayor Jerry Treñas to study the possibility of having a coal-fired power plant in the city.
The task force is also tasked to look for possible investors for the project.
The team is also composed of representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), academe, business organizations and non-government organization.
Treñas did not give the specific names of the representatives from different sectors but for the academe, he said, it will be represented by a chancellor. The representatives from each sector should have expertise or idea on the operations of a coal-fired power plant.
The task force will scrutinize the "technology" of the prospective investor for coal-fired power plant.
Treñas said the city needs alternative source of power and the coal-fired power plant is the most viable. "There is energy coming from solar, hydro-geothermal and wind. However, the city has no available sources of hydro-geothermal and wind. Getting solar energy from the sun will entail much expenses," he said.
Earlier, the chief executive denied the statement of Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog on the creation of a team to look for possible investor for a coal-fired power plant.
