Gawad Galing Pook search on
San Jose, Antique -- The Galing Pook Foundation invites Local Government Units to participate in the annual search for outstanding local governance programs through the Gawad Galing Pook.
Pamela A. Grafilo, Program Officer, Galing Pook Foundation, in her letter to Governor Perez invited the province to continue being part of Galing Pook's harvest of best practices and serve as a model and mentor of effective local governance by submitting entries to the Gawad Galing Pook.
Among the priority development themes are Economic/Enterprise Development, Raising Local Revenues and Fiscal Management, Peace and Development, Delivery of Social Services like Education and Housing, Youth Development, Use of Information Technology for Service Delivery and Strengthening Legislative Processes/Executive-Legislative Partnership.
Launched in October 21 1993 as a pioneering awards program on innovation and excellence in local governance, Gawad Galing Pook is a joint initiative of the Department of Interior and Local Government, the Ford Foundation, and other individual local governance advocates from the academe civil society and government. The Asian Institute of Management anchored the program until the Galing Pook Foundation was established in 1998.
A total of 215 local governance programs were awarded in the annual search for outstanding and trailblazing local governance program from 1994 to 2005.
The search criteria include Positive Results -- 35%, Promotion of People's Participation and Empowerment - 35%, Transferability and Sustainability -- 20% and Efficiency of Program Service Delivery -- 10%.
After series of screening and site validation the President of the Philippines will confer winners in a ceremony to be held at the Malacañang Palace.
