NPA rebel lays down high-powered guns
Jamindan, Capiz -- A self- confessed New Peoples Army member operating in the area of South Western Front, Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros (SWF- KRN) returned to the folds of the government very recently.
In a report submitted to Major Gen. Jovenal D. Narcise, Commanding General of the Third Infantry Division, Philippine Army, by 303rd Infantry Brigade Commander, Brig. Gen. Gregorio M. Fajardo, the rebel was identified as alias Tammy.
Tammy yielded two M16 rifles to elements of 61st Infantry Battalion headed by its Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Romeo Basco, based in Brgy Tiling, Cauayan, Negros Occidental. The troops are now testing the serviceability of the guns surrendered by the said rebel.
The former NPA rebel shall avail of the AFP's Balik Baril Program in order for him to move on and start a new life. Documents are now being prepared for him to get monetary consideration equaled to the guns he surrendered under the program.
Narcise reiterates his call to all NPA rebels to give up their armed struggle, start a new life and join the government in its developmental efforts in the countryside.
Development cannot be achieved without peace and order, much more with the presence of CPP/NPA/NDF in our midst, said Narcise.
