Octogenarian hacks aging daughter
The Oton police is preparing a criminal complaint for frustrated parricide against an octogenarian for hacking his elderly daughter.
SPO3 Eduardo Rosa said that 84-year-old Ricardo Turija hacked and seriously wounded his unmarried daughter, Soldelita, 57 years old, at their house in Barangay Cagbang Sunday.
The victim had several hack wounds, including in the head. She was brought to the Western Visayas Medical Center, where she was confined at the intensive care unit, though already in a stable condition. The older Turija was also wounded in the scuffle for the bolo that ensued between him and his daughter.
He has been nursing an old grudge against his daughter arising from problems in their home, Rosa said of the suspect, now detained at the police station. "He had always been mad at her and the two would always argue with each other."
Rosa said that other members of the family ruled out settlement between the two.
"They're afraid that it might happen again considering that the parties live in the same house," Rosa said.
He added that from what witnesses have said, the suspect is not in good terms with his wife and children.
It was reported that the suspect expressed no regret for hacking his daughter, as he demanded that he be freed from detention or else he would commit suicide.
The Women's and Children's Desk (WCCD) is preparing the necessary documents for today's inquest and the eventual filing of the case.
