City's top cop willing to give up post
In the wake of reports that he is dissatisfied with his unit's performance, Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) director Sr. Supt. Wesley Barayuga is willing to give up his post for a career move.
In a radio interview yesterday, Barayuga said that he is looking at other positions in the police organization, although he did not mention what specific assignment.
"I have to advance. I'm thinking of my career, my self, and my family," he said.
Mayor Jerry Treñas reportedly has yet to know of Barayuga's decision.
Barayuga has been the city's police chief barely a year. He took over the post from Sr. Supt. Norlito Bautista last year. Barayuga was then operations chief for the Police Regional Office 6.
But he stressed that he is not leaving his current assignment if there are no takers.
"I won't be leaving my post until there is already a replacement," he stressed.
Barayuga, who is also a lawyer, admitted that there are better offers, though he did not reveal the details.
His admission comes in the wake of reports that he expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the Iloilo City Police Office's intelligence unit, particularly on the failure to identify crime groups now operating in the city, particularly those that were involved in robbery cases.
Barayuga admitted that his intelligence unit underwent a scolding from him over the latter's performance.
Maybe they just lack a little motivation and guidance, he said.
There has been a spate of unsolved robbery and murders lately, prompting the regional command to deploy a contingent from the 6th Regional Mobile Group to augment the city's police force.
