Treñas attends Indonesia Sanitation Summit 2007
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas recently received an invitation to be the keynote speaker in the Indonesia Sanitation Summit 2007 in Balai Kartini, Jakarta on September 3rd to 5th.
Treñas said the invitation came from the executive secretary of state for national development planning and chief executive secretary of Bappenas Leahrial Loetan.
The mayor said he was asked to speak on the topic "Iloilo City Experiences in implementing the Social Marketing Information Education Campaign" regarding sanitation.
In his letter, Loetan told Treñas that "your experience in dealing with sanitation concerns in your city is very valuable and may be applicable to Indonesia". He also informed the chief executive that his travel expenses will be shouldered by ECO-Asia, an international non-government organization.
"Indonesia, like our country, is part of the group that is included in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) set by the United Nations Development Program; so it is but proper for us to help one another to reach the MDG deadline set on 2015," Treñas said.
Joining Treñas are Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and city environment and natural resources officer Noel Hechanova.
