'IT success depends on leadership ability'
Cebu Educational Development Foundation of Information Technology executive director Boni Belen said the success of Information Technology (IT) is dependent on the leadership of the players in the industry. It does not only connotes innovation but also leadership.
Belen was the keynote speaker during yesterday's opening of the Iloilo IT Week 2007 celebration. This year's theme is "IT Innovates Iloilo". The celebration is spearheaded by the Iloilo Federation for Information Technology (I FIT) with University of the Philippines Chancellor Dr. Glenn Aguilar as chairman. I FIT is an organization composed of the academe, government and private organization.
Aguilar said there is a need to "transform people first before the place."
He said there is a need for new leaders--;those who are willing to give in to "the temptation to do good."
Belen, meanwhile, said that good leadership should be provided to the students for them to act with commitment, be responsible and accountable person of the society. They should value knowledge, he said.
Belen added, people should never stop from trying to become an entrepreneur and would-be entrepreneurs should learn how to cope with every obstacles that comes along their way.
Meanwhile, Dr. Aguilar predicts that their works will bear fruit in three years time. The industry will multiply as IT does not only pertain to call centers but also software development and medical transcriptions among others.
