Negrense wins second in Malaysian chess tourney
Negros Occidental -- An employee of the city government of Escalante City, this province wins the second place in the recently held 27th Astro Merdeka Rapid Open Team Chess Championship in Malaysia last month.
Hamid Nouri, a coach of the city's Sports Office, is also responsible for training the city's local chess champs.
City Mayor Melencio "Beboy" Yap received Nouri with warm congratulations during his arrival in the city after the tournament. The mayor also commended Nouri for the honor he had brought not only of the city but the country as well.
Nouri is again preparing for the forthcoming Asian Men Individual Chess Championship in Cebu City on September 18-30 this year. This championship game is the qualifying round for the World Chess Championship this year.
"I am grateful to the city government of Escalante who is my major sponsor for this game, former CHED Chairman Bro. Rolly Dizon, the people of Escalante, and to all who supported me in one way or another, thank you so much," Nouri said.
