Campus paper advisers to undergo journalism training
Campus Paper advisers from colleges and universities in the region will come together to share experiences and learn from each other in a three-day training to be facilitated by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Western Visayas.
The training is a response to the requests of school paper advisers that they be trained on better and effective paper management and on journalistic writing so that the campus publications can best serve the interest of the students and the community as well.
PIA Dir. Janet Mesa said that the mandate for schools to have publications as stated in Republic Act 7079, or the Journalism Act, should give impetus to the schools to make use of the campus paper as a vehicle for communicating the development thrusts of government that stand to benefit the citizens.
Included in the topics to be discussed other than journalistic writing and paper management is "The Campus Paper Advisers: Network for Information and Communication."
Dir. Mesa said this topic is an attempt to elevate the perspective of campus journalism as a vehicle for development not just as a competitive medium for schools.
The training will be on September 17-19, 2007, at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City. It is open for all elementary, high school, college paper advisers and even for schools which are just planning to put up their own publications.
