The law of attraction
"Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope or confidence." - Helen Keller
Last week, Atho, Vincent and I had pizza and tea together. As always, it was an enjoyable after-work experience as we talked about relationships, crushes, fulfillment and dreams. What struck me about our conversation was Atho's dream board. It's literally a board that gives my friend, everyday, a glimpse of what he wants accomplished at a certain time. And with the help of the dream board, his wishes just kept getting fulfilled, through his thoughts alone.
Atho calls this the law of attraction. According to Wikipedia, the law of attraction is commonly associated with New Age and New Thought theories. It states people experience the corresponding manifestations of their predominant thoughts, feelings, words, and actions and that people therefore have direct control over reality and their lives through thought alone. A person's thoughts (conscious and unconscious), emotions, beliefs and actions are said to attract corresponding positive and negative experiences "through the resonance of their energetic vibration." Gautama Buddha said, "What you have become is the result of what you have thought", is an expression of the idea that thoughts introduced into reality can attract like energy.
Wikipedia further states, that within spiritual circles, the law of attraction has been criticized for conflating ego with the higher self, narcissism and promoting thinking that supposedly was humanity's leading edge several hundred thousand years ago.
To those who criticize this law, I beg to differ. The universe has the ability to provide what we think our needs are. The universe was created by God and this Supreme Being is a God of abundance. So, in short, our every need is already covered, whether we work for it or not.
Last year, I've made two goals. One is to lead the life of single blessedness and second, to secure my future and that of my parents in their old age.
Every day of my life, I focus on these two goals. I actually don't know if I am doing the right things towards the realization of these goals. Sometimes, I question myself how I can manage these because of my weaknesses. I love cute guys! And I spend too much on lunches with friends and partying! (Partying that's not related to work, I mean).
Then, one day in Victory Church, the pastor talked about God being a God of abundance. He provides. So, when I started to be optimistic every day that whatever my heart yearns, He will give, I just take each day in a relaxed and optimistic manner.
Lately, He's been making me experience many things (good and bad) that make me rethink my weaknesses and gradually make me work towards achieving my goals.
At the end of our pig-out with Atho, he said this, "Your actions should always be based on the belief that the universe is abundant. There is no lack. If you think that something is lacking in your life, that lack will manifest itself."
And to prove his point, he foot the bill.
