Aiming to be one of the country's popular
jins, Miggy practices the sport every day
* "If you won't step forward, you will always be on the same place. Always give your best in every game. When you step in the ring, fight with desire because nobody can coach courage."
Oscar Miguel "Miggy" Paz is no ordinary kid in your block. He's hyperactive and he excels in taekwondo and football.and swimming
This 11-year-old jin is a student of the Bethany Life Center Academy and son of Irene Paz, a single mom.
In taekwondo alone, he has garnered 13 gold, 13 silver and four bronze medals. Some of the competitions he joined recently were the PRISAA in Nov. 2006 where he won the gold, Integrated Meet in Dec. 19, gold; WVRAA Regional Meet, Feb. 2007, silver; WV Interschool Competition, gold July 2007; and Mayor's Cup, Aug. 25, 2007.
Aiming to be one of the country's popular jins, Miggy practices the sport every day except Sunday. "I want to be like Kuya Wilot (Otto Wuthrich, an Ilonggo jin who reaps medals in national and international competitions).
Miggy rappels, too
His mother, Irene, narrated that Miggy is so dedicated to his training that they would go home to Zarraga, onboard the motorcycle as late as 10 pm. "Sometimes, I would catch him sleeping on the way home because he was so tired already," Irene said. But she said that her son's best interest is always on her mind.
Presently, she is having a training area erected near their house so that this late-night trainings will be avoided.
When asked what values he has learned from taekwondo, Miggy answered, "Discipline and determination."
Miggy also excels in football. He was the champion in the Football Clinic held in Sta. Barbara, Iloilo last May 2007. "I want to excel so that people will know me," Miggy said. "I like to be Sidney Sollesa, our football coach a friend of the family."
There was a time when Miggy took an interest in rappelling. While they were in Manila, he and his cousins went to the Quezon City Circle for a dose of rappelling. "Even it was my first time, I was not scared at all," Miggy said.
And what is Miggy's message to students his age? "If you won't step forward, you will always be on the same place. Always give your best in every game. When you step in the ring, fight with desire because nobody can coach courage."
