The cool breeze of the BER months is being felt nowadays and certainly, the rainy season is still here. With the usual traffic when it's raining, you would think it's the Christmas holidays, which is actually just around the corner.
This September, let me give you ideas that will give a whole new meaning on hunting for good food.
BEST PIPING HOT MEAL. The best place to get such is Chowking at The Atrium between 12 noon and one pm. You'll see the restaurant filled with diners coming from nearby call centers. The rice toppings and noodle dishes are good choices for customers on a budget.
BEST AFTER GIMMICK SPOT. It's Ted's La Paz Batchoy. With their hot noodles, your hangover will be a thing of the past. Grab a bite of their Puto or Rice Cake or Pandesal for a meal that's truly made in heaven. Having a hot meal after a beer session will refresh your blood circulation.
BEST BREAKFAST SPOT. For that great Tapa Sinangag at Itlog, the best place is Quorum, a quaint corner along Jalandoni Street. They serve budget tapa for as low as P30, already with Garlic Rice. Savor it with some instant coffee.
BEST MERIENDA SPOT. I usually go for Chinese and the best place for Siopao that has beaten my favorite in Manila is no other than Roberto's. It has the softest Siopao I ever tasted in my whole life here in the Philippines; even better than most Chinese Buns in China or Hongkong. It has the tastiest filling which I could just eat every day. It is also the Best Take Out Treat especially if you don't want to be bothered inside the restaurant.
Choose from an array of flavors and surely you won't be disappointed.
BEST BUDGET LUNCH. Filipinos know the concept of 'carinderia' cooking and when it comes to this, the ultimate destination is the rows of eateries at the Central
Market along Iznart Street. There, you could find displays of freshly cooked food in portioned sizes. They will give fast foods a run for their money. So, if you see a cabinet-full of freshly cooked items, that's a 'carinderia' to eat in.
BEST COFFEE STOP. For a full flavored blend of freshly brewed coffee try Coffee Break. There's always one near you. Try their Cappuccino, the best in the city. Their Caramel Frappe is one of the best. If I could have one drink in the world, it would be the creamy pleasure of Caramel Frappe because of its extra whipped cream and caramel bits.
BEST DINNER ALA CARTE. I love good food and one of my discoveries happened when I fed two hungry friends and me under P500 including drinks. It's at Bourbon Street, Smallville. Choose from their array of ala carte dishes. Their Ribs, sold at P225 could already whet a very hungry appetite complimented with their specially sautéed veggies wow this is the perfect match. Just order extra fries or rice, then you're on the go.
BEST DINNER BUFFET. At the newly improved Japanese Buffet spread of Emilion Restaurant in La Paz, you could find some freshly prepared Sushi and Sashimi, a good line up of main courses and desserts galore. They also serve fresh fruits in season, well worth the price.
BEST DESSERT FINALE. Tucked away from busy General Luna along Mabini Street is a small coffee shop and dessert place called Picea. Their chocolate cake and pies are worth the last stop before ending the evening over some freshly brewed tea. A little conversation over cake is surely the proper way to wrap up this story of mine.
Until next Monday . Ciao !
