Bacolod cops second place in 'Best City Peace and Order Council' search
In a highly urbanized category, Bacolod City Peace and Order Council came second to Makati City in the Best City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) for 2005, a nationwide search.
In a letter sent by Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Ronaldo Puno to Bacolod City Mayor and Chairman of the CPOC Evelio Leonardia, stated that Bacolod City was adjudged second based on the exemplary performance of the council in coordinating the accomplishment of programs and projects on peace, law, order, public safety and security. This, notwithstanding the modest means of the council.
In the past, Bacolod City landed on the Top 5 of the nationwide search. For 2005 evaluation, Bacolod shared the spot with Olongapo City.
Leonardia said that landing second place and being next to Makati City, is an achievement for Bacoleños being one of the country's premier cities.
DILG City Director Ireneo Asuga said the impact projects of the CPOC are the Eco-Aide Delight, a project designed to assist scavengers and waste pickers in Brgy. Felisa and launched the Bayanihan Savings Replication Project to teach them become self-reliant citizens.
Leonardia is set to receive the award in behalf of the council at the awarding rites in Malacañang to be presented by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. (PIA/EAD)
