Treñas to ask SP to declare city under state of calamity
City Mayor Jerry Treñas wants the city declared under a state of calamity as a result of the flash floods which affected 45,065 persons or 9,013 families.
He will be forwarding the request for declaration of state of calamity with the Sangguniang Panlungsod to be taken up in tomorrow's regular session.
The declaration would pave way to the release of a portion of the five percent calamity fund which will be used to extend help to the affected families.
The city government could not spend the entire five percent calamity fund since it is only the third quarter of the year and the calamity fund is budgeted for the entire year. It was not immediately known on how much of the calamity fund was already spent.
As of yesterday morning, records from the City Social Welfare Office showed that 51 barangays were affected by flash floods and of the 9,013 affected families only 6,992 families were received help. There are still 2,021 families waiting for help from the city government. The city's immediate help to affected families comes in form of food stuff such as rice, noodles and sardines.
Report also showed six houses were totally damaged and another two houses were partially damaged. The affected families stayed at the evacuation centers. No damage to infrastructure was reported.
