Treñas welcomes boys and girls officials
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas welcomed this year's set of student officials for the celebration of the Boys' and Girls' week.
The celebration, where various students get to occupy government positions for a week, is done annually and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Iloilo district 3850.
"This is a very important occasion both for the city government and these young leaders. We are given the opportunity to show you how public servants work, how we use our various resources for the betterment of this city. For these future leaders, this is a chance to learn how public governance works and to serve your fellow Ilonggos in your own way," Treñas said.
This year's set of officials is headed by Jelica Diane King from Sun Yat Sen as girl mayor. King bested other students in the essay-writing and action plan making activities, and a panel interview conducted by judges picked by the Rotary Club from various sectors of society.
Vice-mayor is Audrey Laglagaron from Philippine Science High School, and the 14 councilors are Stephanie Keiko Enarbia (Ateneo de Iloilo), Maureen Joy Fernandez (Holy Rosary Academy), Luisa Baylon and Sayuri Goto (Asumption-Iloilo), Dave Joshua Cua (UP High School), Mechel Anne Belvis (Iloilo National High School), Marietta Lemery (San Jose Catholic School), Camille Javellana (Ateneo de Iloilo), Josephine Juantong (Iloilo Central Commercial HS), Marielle Jacomille (Ateneo de Iloilo), Audrey Fatima Virgula (INHS), Nikki Careen Palacios and Marian Rosary Grace Solidum (PSHS) and Paolo Jose de Luna (INHS).
Other city officials are Paolo Martic Taruc (PAREF Westbridge) as city administrator, Michiko Francine dela Cruz (Iloilo Scholastic Academy) as city planning and development officer, Yvonnie Rose Juanco (USA HS) as city treasurer, Geraldine Garcia (De Paul College) as city accountant, Monica Carmile Martirez (Colegio delas Hijas de Jesus) as city assessor, Rose Lea Baldevarona (UP HS) as city budget officer, Pauline Joy Lequillo (INHS) as city legal officer, Theodore Joseph Barredo (PAREF Westbridge) as city engineer, Portia May Ladrido (PSHS) as city health officer, and Danielle Bacinillo (CHJ) as city tourism officer.
Highlights of the week-long activity include the boys' and girls' session at the city council and dinner for all government and student officials. (EAM/PIO)
