City Comelec readies ballot boxes for Brgy, SK polls
The City Commission on Elections (Comelec) has requested its central office for 61 additional ballot boxes for the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections on October 29, 2007. In yesterday's inspection the City Comelec found out that only 1,139 ballot boxes are available for the coming electoral exercise.
Comelec election officer Jonathan Sayno said they have already sent a request to the Comelec central office for more ballot boxes. He said they need a total of 1,200 ballot boxes for next month's election.
Sayno added they have 1,144 ballot boxes used during last May 14 elections but some of it could not be used as the election protest of former Senator Loren Legarda is still pending before the Presidential Electoral Tribunal.
The ballot boxes that are made available are those only covered with the motion for partial withdrawal released by Jose M. Tolentino, Deputy Executive Director for Operation of the Presidential Electoral Tribunal. The motion for partial withdrawal was dated April 24, 2007.
Yesterday, the Comelec and the City Treasurers Office (CTO) opened and inspected the 1,139 ballot boxes as part of their preparation for the coming polls. The opening of the ballot boxes was also attended by representatives of dominant political parties in the city such as the Lakas-NUCD and Liberal Party.
Representatives from the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), Commission on Audit (CoA) and the media were also present during the inspection.
