500 city residents finish skills training
Around 500 individuals yesterday received certificates of graduation for technical and short courses from the Technological Institute of Iloilo City (TIIC), Bo. Obrero campus.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said with the skills acquired by the graduates from the training they can already start their own business.
"The skills they acquired could not be taken away from them and it will help them a lot," said Treñas.
TIIC Bo. Obrero campus is formerly known as the Helping Hand Foundation training center until it was merged with TIIC which is then based in Molo. Later, the operation of the TIIC was turned-over to the City Division Schools headed by Dr. Erlinda Gencaya. The TIIC in Molo retained its name as TIIC Molo campus and Helping Hand Foundation as TIIC Bo. Obrero campus.
Treñas said he is very happy to see the graduates with the skills they learned. The trainings were offered for free.
The TIIC Bo. Obrero campus offers short courses such as cellular phone repair and maintenance, computer hardware servicing, dressmaking, beauty care and hairdressing, bartending, food and beverage services, commercial cooking and drafting. While, courses offered in TIIC Molo campus are building wiring installation, carpentry and automotive servicing.
The chief executive added that the city government is working for the training centers' accreditation with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). TESDA certified graduates have more chances to land a job especially outside the country.
