Criminology stude dies in frat fight
A sophomore criminology student was stabbed dead in what is believed to be a fraternity-related fight Monday afternoon in Dumangas town.
SPO3 Peter Doronila of the Dumangas police station said that Rowie Barres, 28 years old and a resident of Brgy. Cali, stabbed dead Chester Gibbs Descopido, 20 years old, of Regidor St, Poblacion, Dumangas.
Descopido sustained a single stab wound in the abdomen, and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Dumangas District Hospital.
Doronila said that there are conflicting eyewitness accounts on the incident.
Some witnesses said that the victim and his friend met Barres, who was with three companions, and a fight ensued between the two groups. However, relatives of the victim told the police that he was merely dragged into a fight when he accompanied his girlfriend to her home.
Barres is now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology facility in the town. Depending on the outcome of the investigations, Barres may either be charged with homicide or murder, Doronila said.
