Treñas orders tight security on business establishments
City Mayor Jerry Treñas yesterday met with mall managers, hotel owners and terminal operators in the city to talk about security measures in the wake of the Glorietta mall bombing in Makati City which killed 11 people and hurt more than a hundred individuals.
Treñas said, though there is no apparent threat of similar terroristic attack in the city it is better that security measures are put in place to protect the public.
"The unfortunate experience at Glorietta Mall 2, which claimed eleven lives, should serve as a grim reminder for everybody to be vigilant and keep their guards up at all times," Treñas said.
The mayor added, he was informed by mall managers that the number of people who went to the mall over the weekend decreased because of the Makati incident.
Treñas stressed the people have nothing to worry as there is no terroristic threat in the city and the Philippine National Police (PNP) is on top of the situation.
He said members of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) as well as PNP personnel are currently deployed in malls and other vital installations, like oil depots, to avert the possibility that certain groups might sabotage the country's volatile situation.
Treñas also called on businessmen to intensify the security measures on their establishments to protect the people.
The mayor added that aside from malls and vital installations he has also ordered an intensified security on hotels, terminals, schools, public markets and churches.
Public cemeteries and memorial parks will also be secured in preparation for the coming All Saints Day on November 1, Treñas said.
A total of 300 policemen and police interns will be deployed in various public and private cemeteries within the city for the occasion. Barangay Tanods were also requested to assist the police in their respective areas to ensure that peace is maintained.
