BULLS EYE
A non-issue
There, actually, is no issue in the changing of color of Dinagyang performers starting next year. It's just that Mr. Ben Jimena failed to put in the right perspective the plan to change the color of the performers in the Dinagyang tribes competition. Instead of justifying that the actual color of the aetas is dark brown, Mr. Jimena could have just said that the color of the performers will be changed. Anyway, in the past few years, it was observed that Dinagyang performers have become multi-colored especially with the introduction of modern choreography in the tribes' performances. Further, the Dinagyang Festival is not to celebrate the aetas, it is a celebration in honor of Señor Sto. Niño (although as time passes the festival's religiosity slowly declined).
Coronation without turnover
Have you heard of a coronation program without a turnover ceremony between an outgoing and an incoming queen? Well, it happened in Arevalo last week. Arevalo district CSWDO chair Ms. Teresa Lareda neglected her responsibility to double check if theprogram for the coronation of Miss UN 2007 was accurate or lacking. Or, she might have intentionally excluded in the program the most important part which is the turnover causing embarrassment on the part of outgoing queen Alyna Jean "AJ" Fernandez. After her farewell walk, AJ was brought to one side of the stage to stand. Yes, to stand because there was no chair. It was just fortunate that AJ's former teacher Grace Barcena brought a plastic chair up the stage for the little girl to sit on. Worse, no turnover happened as the new queen received her scepter from a bearer and her crown from City Councilor Lyndon Acap. Ms. Lareda just sat, making "pa-cute", at the presidential table beside the good Councilor from Arevalo.
