2nd flyover for Iloilo City scrapped
Iloilo City's second flyover, supposedly to be constructed across a mall along Diversion Road, will no longer be implemented.
City Mayor Jerry Treñas confirmed the cancellation of the second flyover project during the Metro Iloilo-Guimaras Development Council (MIGEDC) Summit last Saturday.
Treñas said the government canceled its contract with Mabey & Johnson Ltd. for the latter's failure to comply with certain agreements in the construction of flyover projects in the country.
The vehicular flyover project is under the President's Bridge Program or Tulay ng Pangulo sa Kaunlaran program. Iloilo City is one of the ten cities in the country identified as recipient of the project.
The second flyover project is supposed to to be implemented after the completion of the Infante vehicular flyover.
However, even before the Infante flyover project was completed, the national government decided to cancel the contract with Mabey & Johnson Ltd. after the latter failed to comply with the project specifications.
The completion of the project is now being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with some P10 million additional budget needed.
