Guidelines on filling vacant barangay, SK posts out this week
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will release this week its guidelines on filling vacant barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) posts.
This was announced by DILG regional director Evelyn Trompeta in response to queries on unfilled seats caused by lack of candidates or due to a failure of elections during the recent synchronized barangay and SK elections.
Trompeta recalled that on July 15, 2002, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed an Executive Order calling for a special election in areas where there were failure of elections and authorized their department secretary to make appointments based on recommendations.
"The department will be coming up with guidelines this week," she said.
Trompeta said they have been asked by their central office to submit a profiling of all the vacant posts during the recent elections.
So far, only one barangay in Western Visayas failed to conduct elections last October 29, namely Rizal Norte Maliao in Tapaz, Capiz. (PNA)
