Kabankalan City wins cleanest city provincial award for 2007
The city of Kabankalan, Negros Occidental is named the cleanest and greenest city for the year 2007 by the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran.
The award was given to the city for three consecutive years by the Gawas Pangulo sa Kapaligiran.
Representatives from the Provincial Health Office, Department of Education, Provincial Environment Management Office and the Department of Interior and Local Government are part of the evaluation team that visited and inspected the city's public market, city plaza, public CRs, barangay halls, health office, material recovery facility buildings, sanitary landfill and the different offices at the city hall.
Dottie Zayco, wife of City Mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. welcomed the team who were toured in the city by Roger Diaz, city engineer; Engr. Glicerio Cabatac, project in-charge; Vir Gerongani, tourism officer and Eddie Yap, information officer.
A demonstration on converting plastic bags and containers into garden steps and flooring tiles was also shown to the group. The group also saw the city vegetable gardens using organic fertilizer produced from the garbage of the city.
During the feed backing session held after the tour, one of the evaluators observed that the city is consistently clean any day of the year and not only on evaluation day. (Kabankalan City/PIA)
