DILG rules terms of League of Barangays Federation presidents
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Wednesday issued an advisory to clarify issues regarding the terms of office of League of Barangays Federation Presidents and their ex-officio membership at the council.
DILG Western Visayas, quoting the opinion of Undersecretary Austere A. Panadero, said that the League of Barangays Federation president who was elected in the recent barangay election shall continue to act as the league's president in hold over capacity until a successor is elected.
If the current president is no longer a barangay chairman by noontime of Nov. 30, the incumbent vice president shall represent the barangay association in the council provided that he/she was re-elected during the recent barangay election.
If both are no longer barangay chairman by Nov. 30, the members of the Board shall elect their representative to the council provided who was also re-elected.
If these options are not applicable, the National League of Barangays will appoint a caretaker until a new league chapter president is elected.
DILG issued the advisory to address the perceived vacuum that may arise between the period when the new set of barangay officials will start to assume office and the election of the new League officers. (PNA)
