TNT columnist wins in 3rd Annual PopDev Media Awards
Julia-Careon Lagoc
The News Today columnist Julia Carreon-Lagoc was chosen as runner-up for Best in Opinion Writing – Print Category in the 3rd Annual PopDev Media Awards conducted by the Philippine Legislators' Committee on Population and Development Foundation, Inc. (PLCPD).
Lagoc's article "A Brighter Day for Little Jane", which will be reprinted in her column space tomorrow, copped the award out of 340 entries submitted for the contest.
Lagoc was nominated by the Population Commission Regional Office 6.
In an e-mail sent to Lagoc, Ramon San Pascual, Executive Director of PLCPD, informed the TNT columnist that all of the 340 entries they received were blinded for anonymity and initially evaluated by a Screening Committee composed of nine organizations from the development and media community.
San Pascual said the three entries, which includes her winning article, were then submitted to the Board of Judges for Print and Online categories composed of: Rep. Edcel Lagman (PLCPD), Mr. Jose Pavia (Philippine Press Institute), Prof. Luis Teodoro (Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility), and Ms. Rina Jimenez-David (columnist, Phil. Daily Inquirer). The final line-up of winners was determined on November 6, 2007.
The 3rd Annual PopDev Media Awards was open to all print, broadcast and online journalists nationwide with entries dealing on population and development issues.
The awarding ceremonies will be held on November 27, 2007, 6:30 p.m. at the Embassy Ballroom of the Traders Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
