PIA chief to award COPRE '07 winners
Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Director General Conrado Limcaoco will present the awards to this year's winners and awardees of the 34thCollege Press Conference (COPRE) and Awards as well as the six Best Performing Paper Advisers for 2007, on November 29 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
Secretary Limcaoco will join another guest speaker, Hon. Arthur Defensor, Jr., Iloilo Provincial Board Member, to speak before the more than 200 college paper writers who earlier in the day, will vie for awards in journalistic writing competitions.
The COPRE is an annual gathering of college paper writers in Western Visayas, where they will showcase their publications as entries in the search for Best News Page, Best Editorial Page, Best Feature Page, Best Sports Page, Best Literary Page, and Best Filipino Page as well as Best Magazine, Best Newspaper and Best Departmental Paper and the Hall of Fame Award which is the Graciano Lopez Jaena Award.
PIA Dir. Janet Mesa said that the COPRE has been there all along as a venue for student writers to aspire for enriching experiences and training on development journalism while serving as a measure of the effectiveness of the Basic Journalism Seminar-workshops conducted by the PIA every year.
"Ours is a low-profile Journalism workshop but we believe we are contributing to make campus journalism alive as mandated by RA 7079, or the Journalism Act of 1991," Dir. Mesa said.
Joining Sec. Limcaoco in gracing the COPRE '07 are the PIA Visayas Cluster heads who will hold their regular meeting in Iloilo. (PIA6/ESS)
