NGO leads walkathon for kids in Iloilo City
The Iloilo Juvenile Welfare Foundation (IJWF), a non-government organization that caters to male children in conflict with the law (CICL) will spearhead a walkathon aimed at promoting children's rights and increasing public awareness on the plight of less privileged children.
The activity, which is being supported by various schools in the city, will be held on December 8 starting at 3 p.m.
The schools include Central Philippine University, University of San Agustin, University of Iloilo, Iloilo Central Commercial High School, American School and San Jose Parochial School.
Close to 500 students and CICL will walk from the provincial capitol grounds to Jaro plaza, says IJWF and Iloilo City Task Force on Street Children chair, Rosalie S. Treñas.
"We tapped the other schools other than where our beneficiaries study so that all of them would have a chance to bond and develop friendships with each other. This activity will also serve as an awareness drive about the existence of CICL and the less fortunate children in the city," Treñas said.
The top three finishers will receive P3,000; P2,000 and P1,000 each. (PNA)
