Guv seeks SP nod on P23.3M allowance for barangay workers
Nearly 12,000 volunteer workers in Iloilo's 1,721 barangays stand to receive government allowances reaching over P23.3 million.
Subject of Supplemental Budget No. 5, final nod hangs though as members of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) deliberates on the appropriation.
Of the P23.3 million set for distribution, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) stand to receive the biggest slice of the budget at P14.7 million. The amount will cover the allowances for 7,378 BHWs.
Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs) on the other hand will get a total of P4.2 million set to evenly distributed to 2,105 throughout the province. P3.1 million will go to Day Care Workers numbering to 1.579 while 597 Barangay Nutrition Scholars here will get some P1.1 million.
Meantime, the controversial veto made by Governor Niel Tupas on provisions of an Supplemental Budget No. 4 awaits SP action and resolution.
Albeit the second item taken up in Tueday's session under its Provincial Matters, the SP body as a matter of procedure simply had said business "tabled."
As such, no clear result as of yet on whether the veto will stay or the SP as a collective body will move to override.
The governor in his veto argued that what the SP earlier did to his request was wrong. The grounds for adoption, he added, is ultra vires or prejudicial to the public welfare in accordance with the Local Government Code.
