Roxas City parish to celebrate 300th year
Roxas City -- The Immaculate Conception Metropolitan Cathedral here will start on November 29 its various religious activities in line with the feast day of the Patroness of the Capiceños, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, on December 8.
This year's feast day of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception with the theme "Maria, Iloy sang Barangay " coincides with the 300th anniversary of the parish here.
It is also part of the 4-day Sinadya sa Halaran celebration of the province's way of life demonstrated in various merrymaking and thanksgiving activities for its blessings and good fortunes during the past year.
The different religious activities are highlighted by the novena masses, Prosesyon sang Patron sang Barangay sang Birhen, mass at the city plaza to be followed by a fluvial procession on Dec. 7, and series of fiesta masses on Dec. 8, among others.
Thousands of devotees are expected to flock and witness the sundown fluvial procession of the image of the Blessed Mother along the Panay River.
The faithful pay tribute to the Patroness by floating candles and flowers which contain intercessory requests and thanksgiving during this solemn ritual.
A stretch of lighted river floaters reflecting colored lights from the flowing water at the back of Roxas City band stand will add color to the fluvial parade. It will be followed by a fireworks display to pay homage to the Virgin Mary set at the historic Roxas Avenue bridge. (PIA)
