Christmas is not all merrymaking
Christmas celebration in the homes of ordinary Filipinos is simple. However, for the rich or the moneyed ones it is different. While the poor display Christmas trees decorated with recyclable materials, the rich display Christmas trees with colorful lights and donned with imported toys and fancy decorations. While ordinary families prepare inexpensive foods for "noche buena" the rich have all the best foods on top of their dining table.
But the real Christmas is not merrymakings, dancing, partying, eating cholesterol and fatty foods and all sorts of unending happiness that the lonely baby in the manger is literally left to His mother Mary and earthly father Joseph, and the obscure shepherds. Happy are those who celebrate Christmas remembering baby Jesus inside the chapel and holy sanctuary with fervent prayers for the many woes of the world the we face today. It is a tradition in all Christian world that celebrating the glorious even with pomp and glory. In most cases, people do the extreme and the divine commemoration of Christ's birth is secondarily remembered.
The rich however can afford to make their Christmas orgy a pompous one. There are however rich families who observe Christmas by sharing their bounty to the poorest of the poor. They reach out goodies to the street children, orphans and those in the slums and juvenile homes. They consider giving clothes, groceries and even money to the less fortunates in our society. Christmas is the wonderful day of the season; it's also the time that Christians should remember Jesus Christ as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings, as the Holy Father, Blessed Son and the Holy Spirit are three in one. Jesus said in Matthew 25:40: "And the King shall answer and say unto them, verily I say unto you, inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."
With prices of commodities soaring beyond the reach of our low income workers and employees with the government seems doing helpless to curb the rising cost of prices, the rich should enjoy life this Christmas unlimited, they should not also forget our unfortunate brothers, sisters and children in prison, asylum, rehabilitation homes for drug addicts, and other places where people have unfortunate circumstances.
Celebrate Christmas by remembering the Saviour Jesus Christ and let's all pray that the Lord will heal our ailing nation and that graft and corruption will stop in order that the millions stolen from government projects and coffers will go to the amelioration of those who have less in life. Jesus our Lord will be happy to see and hear in heaven that His people who are called by his name shall set aside their wickedness and sins that the Philippines will be washed away clean and heal our land.
