Reward system seen to lower cases of electrical wires stealing
The reward system imposed by City Mayor Jerry Treñas for the arrest of stealers of electrical wirings in the city already showed positive result.
Recently, two suspects were separately caught in flagrante delicto by a barangay kagawad and two traffic aides stealing the electrical wires from the city's electrical post.
Treñas made public his cash reward scheme during the mass oath taking of barangay and SK officials in Jaro covered gym last week. The mayor offered to give P20,000 cash reward to any barangay official or residents who could arrest and report thieves of electrical wires.
Treñas said people got interested in the reward scheme as manifested by the recent arrest of Isial Sumagaysay of Barangay Ingore, La Paz. Sumagaysay was accosted by Barangay Kagawad Ronilo Jaena. Another suspect was arrested by two traffic aides in Arroyo Street, City Proper. He did not identify the suspect arrested in Arroyo and the names of the two traffic aides.
Treñas said recent apprehensions simply show that the reward system is effective. He expects to have more arrests of stealers of electrical wires in the succeeding days. He said the bounty hunters will receive the cash reward after the filing of the complaint against the suspects at the City Prosecutors Office. They will also be honored in this coming Monday's flag ceremony.
Treñas said the reward could not be released to a mere tipster. The suspect should be caught on the act of stealing electrical wires and be immediately arrested.
The chief executive added that it is the task Force Boltahe that will serve as complainant in the case with the bounty hunter as the witness. At present, there are already two pending cases filed against the suspected electrical wire thieves.
The reward system was imposed by the mayor because of the rampant cases of stealing of electrical wires from the city's streetlights.
