SP newbies undergo training on good governance
New faces in the Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) underwent a two-day seminar aimed at getting them off to a good start.
With an overview on the operations of the Iloilo Provincial Government as among the seminar's primary activity, the participants were also introduced to the rationale of the public office and being a public officer.
As such, the group had a crash course on work values, ethics and accountability matters alongside compensation and benefits of government employ.
Yet more importantly, a thorough discussion was conducted on the procurement flow and processes. This, with the complete presentation of the proper legislative flow and processes, office policies and leave laws.
The seminar also banked on the three-year strategic planning of the Iloilo Provincial Government, Iloilo's strategic development framework and the nine-priority governance agenda.
Iloilo's operation is anchored on the need to enhance the province's agriculture and aquaculture production, environmental protection and maintenance of peace and order.
Likewise a priority is the need to increase jobs through entrepreneurial development, effective and efficient basic health and welfare services and education and skills development.
An extensive discussion was also made on the matter of information technology pursued by the provincial government.
In reminding the new entrants to accountability of public officials and employees, the group was told of the basic provisions of Republic Act 6713 otherwise known the Conduct and Ethical Standards of Public Officials and Employees. And as added important reminder came Republic Act 3019 otherwise known as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
The Iloilo SP has since been known to have efficiently served the provincial government under Atty. Lorenzo Tubola, SP secretary.
