BULL'S EYE
John Melchor is it!
As expected Vice Mayor Jed's nephew won as president of the SK federation in the city. The combined forces of Councilor Armand and Councilor Tony was no match to the machinery and resources of Vice Mayor Jed. Dirty as it may seem, we have no choice but to accept the result of the election. We just hope that the defeated aspirants would just move on with their normal lives and just cooperate with the new SK leadership. As to incoming ex-officio Sangguniang Panlungsod member John Melchor, we hope that he would be true to his words that he will really work hard for the SK.
Lameduck SP
We find it hard to believe that the city council outrightly washed its hands on the issue of the defective construction of the Infante flyover. The Sangguniang Panlungsod immediately turned down the call of a group of lawyers that the flyover construction be investigated by reasoning that it is out of their jurisdiction since it is a project of the national administration. Wow! Is that so? Our city councilors should know better. The flyover was built here in the city so the city officials must have the right to question certain problems regarding the project especially that it has worsened our traffic problem. If the city councilors were afraid to touch on the issue why didn't they ask the help of Congressman Gonzalez? Maybe he could bring the matter to the attention of his colleagues in the lower house. Sa imo bi tsip?
Gargantuan problem
A lawyer commented that one of the reasons why Iloilo City could not catch up with other neighboring cities in terms of development is the traffic problem. "I spend around an hour traveling from Molo plaza to the Hall of Justice during peak hours," the lawyer whined, stressing that the distance between the two destinations is not even more than four kilometers. Well, various sectors have been studying how to address the city's traffic problem but it seems no effective solution was reached yet. In other words, we just have to get used to this problem.
