Iloilo City typhoon victims get early Christmas gifts
Some 500 families affected by the typhoon that hit the city last month were treated to an early Christmas by city government and the Office of the Senate President recently.
"Financial assistance was extended by the city government by giving P1,000 to owners of partially damaged houses and P2,000 owners of totally damaged houses," said Mayor Jerry Treñas during the recent gift-giving activity at this city's Social Hall.
Treñas said the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) made a verification of the beneficiaries from 34 barangays directly affected during the flashfloods.
Senate President Manny Villar provided relief assistance in the form of rice and noodle packages. Villar was represented by his political affairs staff Cookis Concio in the giving of gifts.
"Senator Villar gave additional assistance to other families affected," said Concio.
Treñas said the CSWDO is verifying other families to be added to the second batch of beneficiaries.
"We have remaining financial assistance to give to the families affected," he said.
Treñas said the financial assistance extended to the affected families was made available by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to the city government.
The mayor said that the city government shall have a gift-giving activity for 10,000 indigent families on December 22.
In this annual activity, food packages will be given to poor families in the spirit of Christmas.
Villar also gave 600 sacks of rice to Oton municipality, according to Concio. (PNA)
