Battle on today for SK rep in Capitol
A total of 43 youth leaders from Iloilo's 42 towns and one component city will decide today who will be their official representative in the Iloilo Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
As such, the battle is on for the presidency in the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK) provincial federation, the lucky one will sit as ex-officio member of the provincial board. Once voted, the SK representative will have equal legislative powers that will determine whether the majority bloc gets another ally or be the welcomed addition to the SP minority.
The News Today (TNT) in a report gathered that the battle will ultimately be between Dumangas SK Guisseppe Karl "Bryan" Gumban and Pototan's Nonito Pasuelo Jr.
By midday today, the results are expected to be out in closed-door election supervised by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) here.
Capitol observers said today's SK elections though is yet another silent battle between Iloilo's power officials. This, after the SK bets were reportedly pushed and backed by the camp of Governor Niel Tupas Sr. and the group of Fourth District Congressman Ferjinel Biron.
After the SK polls comes the Liga presidency on December 29. Both ex-officio seats are said to be crucial for the current composition of the 9th SP body where the overwhelming majority are identified outside the graces of Governor Tupas.
