Thousands of new jobs expected to open in Boracay in 2008
BORACAY ISLAND -- Thousands of new jobs are expected to be generated on this resort island next year.
Nieven Maquirang, head of the Caticlan Port Administration, said the expected increase of new jobs results from the expected opening of several resorts and more investments with the booming tourism industry.
Maquirang said the Shangrila Hotel alone which is expected to open on April 2008 has announced it is now hiring 200 to 400 workers preferably Aklan residents.
Air Philippines revived the other day its inaugural flights five times a week flying from Manila to Caticlan Airport for Boracay-bound tourists.
The M/V Virgin Mary of the MBRS Lines also revived its office plying their operation from Caticlan Port to Manila Route at least twice a week.
Maquirang said aside from Shangrila, other resorts expected to open next year are the Alta Vista Resort, Seven Stones Condotel, Balaihara and the Sheraton Hotel.
"We also expect to hire more personnel for the Caticlan Jetty Port for our expansion in summer since we expect the influx of tourists coming to Boracay," she said.
The provincial government targets one million tourists to visit Boracay in 2010. (PNA)
