Ikthus is born in Iloilo
Ikthus is a Christian symbol for fish. The first believers were scared to wear any mark of their faith because they were persecuted and killed. Then, the time came that they sketched the symbol of the fish to show to others that they are Christians. This Greek rebus means: I - Jesus, X - Christ, O - God's, Y - Son's and E – Savior.
Here in Iloilo City, Ikthus is a Christian fellowship being held every Sunday, 9 am in selected hotels. It was launched in Days Hotel last Nov. 23, 2007 and the services followed in Emilion and The Centennial Hotel lately.
The idea of coming up with such fellowship started 10 years ago when friends met during Bible studies. Pastor Joe Ascalon said that having Ikthus in Iloilo City is an answered prayer.
The launching started with praise and worship songs. My favorite "How Great Thou Art" was one of them and the group really sang it so well.
Then, Pastor Ascalon made a presentation of what Ikthus is all about. To sum it all up, it's "a place to belong and a place to become."
