Iloilo SP adopts Leyte Resolution on Garin's heroic act in Batasan blast
Janet Garin
Members of the 9th Iloilo Sanggunian Panlalawigan (SP) unanimously adopted a Resolution passed by the Sanggunian Panlalawigan of Leyte commending an Ilongga solon.
Subject of Resolution No. 07-652, the commendation was for First District Congresswoman Janette Loreto-Garin "for her heroism and grace under pressure in the midst of the bombing and chaos at the Batasan Pambansa, for support and coordinative action."
The Ilonggo solon is a native of Leyte where she began her political career as Sanggunian Kabataan federation president. She is currently on her second term as Iloilo First District congresswoman after her stint as board member of the Province of Iloilo.
Congresswoman Garin is married to First District Board Member Richard Garin.
The commendation came after Garin's principal role in the aftermath of the Batasan complex bombing. A doctor by profession, the lady solon took charge of emergency response in the blast site and was instrumental in saving the lives of at least four of the bomb victims.
She was also the main source of information for most of the local, national and international reporters in the first hours of the deadly incident.
