Negros Occidental gears for ICT development
Bacolod City -- In a bid to bring students at par with the changing scenario of employment in Information Communication Technology and the Business Process Outsourcing sectors, the provincial government is set to put-up a call center training facility early next year.
A technical team from the province headed by 5th district Board Member Emilio Yulo III visited Teleperformance site to check the technical requirements for a call center training facility.
IT desktop engineer Irjo Sellado briefed the group with the computer requirements which includes networking and the setting up of the server while Anthony Visitacion, a trainer, briefed the group with basic requirement from TESDA for the call center training facility.
The technical team also visited VMA Global, La Salle Tech, Fidmi and another call center firm in the city.
Governor Marañon already issued an executive order creating the interim committee task to set-up the English/IT Center.
Seeing the need of the industry, Negros Occidental Governor Joseph Marañon and Board Member Yulo met with Teleperformance executives last September to identify both long term and short term solution to address the current need.
Among those identified as long term solution is on how to strengthen the English literacy of Negrenses. One of the programs that were identified to fill the gap was the Negros Program for Enhancing English Proficiency (NEGROS PEEP), an initiative which aims to encourage students from elementary to tertiary and even out of school youths to develop their English communication skills.
As a jumpstart, Negros Occidental High School had already launched its own English immersion program where English is used as medium of instruction on all subject except for Filipino. (TP/PIA)
