16 WV towns under communist threat
At least sixteen towns in three provinces of Western Visayas are under direct threat from harassments and feared attacks from communist terrorists.
The disclosure as confirmed by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) here can still dramatically worsen with the sixteen towns only "initial targets."
Captain Lowen Gil Marquez, commanding officer of the AFP's 3rd Civil Relations Group issued a press statement to confirm the report.
The purported attacks as uncovered by the government will be launched by the New People's Army (NPA), armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP). Such will supposedly be the execution of "tactical offensive terrorism" in CPP-NPA "priority areas."
In a news release sent to The News Today (TNT), targets are towns of San Remegio in the province of Antique, Second District towns of Tubungan, Leon, Alimodian and San Miguel in the province of Iloilo. Also in the "target list" are the towns of Calinog and Lambunao, Iloilo and Capiz towns of Tapaz, Dumarao and Dumalag.
In the Province of Negros Occidental, the AFP said similar attacks are underway set to be perpetuated by the "Negros Terrorist Party Committee."
Target area is the "Chicks area" comprised of the towns of Cauayan, Hinobaan, Ilog, Candoni, Kabankalan and Sipalay. And if the communist hierarchy is to be followed, favored targets here are AFP soldiers and camps alongside CAFGU detachments in the area.
Both, the AFP said, are targets for execution "in celebration of CPP/NPA/NDF terrorism Anniversary this 26, December 2007."
"The Armed Forces in Western Visayas commanded by the courageous General Jovenal Narcise of the Army 3rd Infantry Spearhead Division, Philippine Army are on 'ready and defensive mode' to counter and respond to terrorist CPP/NPA/NDF 'snake attacks' toward the Filipino masses," the news release ended.
