Be beautiful
Early of December last year my staff in the Yellow Bird Magazine, the Official Student Publication of St. Joseph School (Iloilo) Inc., planned for the theme of our next issue. We spent an hour brainstorming until we came up with "The Beauty and the Geek."
As an adviser you would feel the excitement of my editors to do the issue. I may say that the articles they made passed my standards. (hehehe) I can see the growth of my editors ever since they were participating and attending seminars conducted by the DepEd and English Circle. Their skills in writing boost their motivation to make not only good but worth-reading write-ups.
Allow me to share one of the articles that we included in "The Beauty and the Geek" issue of our mag. This article entitled "Beauty emanates from within" was written by Jeremiah Claudine Calacal who's not only good in writing but also in extemporaneous speaking as well. She won first place in the recently concluded PRISAA and bagged the second place in the Integrated Meet.
Beauty emanates from within
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in; their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within. What a beautiful quotation, indeed! It speaks of what real beauty is and how each person has a beauty of its own. It is not the kind of beauty that we often see in some people. It is beauty that emanates from within. It is beauty that sprouts from the heart. It is inner beauty.
It is indeed true that the most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they much be felt with the heart. It is not how beautiful or pretty the face but what is beyond that beautiful face. If only we know what real beauty is, we would be able to see that there is beauty that surrounds us. Even the creepiest of the animals and the most beastly creatures, there is beauty in them for these beast and all of us are God's creations. And God created only what is beautiful to His eyes. Remember that the most beautiful things in the world are the most useless: peacocks and lilies, for instance. To a toad, what is beauty? A female with two pop-eyes, a wide mouth, yellow belly and spotted back.
Physical beauty is temporal while inner beauty, eternal. What if physical fades? A beautiful soul transcends anything, surpasses even intellect. A person who holds a beautiful heart has a beauty that does not fade. This is the kind of beauty that does not draw the "oohs" and "wows" from the crowd but the highest and genuine admiration from other people. This is the kind of beauty that inspires and touches lives.
Character contributes to beauty. It fortifies a woman as her youth fades. A mode conduct, a standard of courage, discipline, fortitude and integrity can do a great deal to make a woman beautiful. It is not the beauty of her smiles but the reason why she's smiling. It is not her tantalizing eyes but the tears that fall in sympathy to the sadness of others or the sparkle for the joys of others. Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.
Character makes or breaks a person. A happy disposition puts radiance on one's face. And that radiance makes a person lovely. An angry and envious heart distorts a face. So no matter how beautiful a person is but her heart is full of anger and hate, she is still ugly.
People have to realize that judging others by their outside looks is stupidity. Looks are deceitful. True beauty is that beautiful soul, that beautiful character.
Christina Aguilera's line would definitely be true. "I am beautiful no matter what they say." When you wake up every morning, that line would be a great help to achieve a happy disposition for the entire day. Have a beautiful day!
