Boracay PNP on red alert following clashes
Boracay Island, Aklan -- Elements of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in this resort island have been placed undern a maximum red alert status following the clash of two groups resulting to the death of an ex-soldier and wounding of two others.
SPO1 Auxillio Dador of the Boracay PNP identified the victim as ret. T/Sgt Vicente Maming while wounded were a 12- year boy and a security guard.
Reports said Maming attempted to take over the contested lot in Sitio Cagban, Barangay Manoc Manoc here reportedly owned by Gov. Carlito Marquez.
"But the detailed security guard of the contested lot fought back killing Maming in the process and injuring the two. We also recovered several slugs of gun at several nearby houses," Dador said.
Currently, the security guards of Triple A are under police custody with homicide possibly to be filed against them.
Just recently, at least 43 security guards were simultaneously arrested by the PNP in a separate contested lot in Barangay Balabag, Boracay and facing charges of alarm and scandal including illegal possession of firearms.
The PNP admits that land-grabbing has been a perennial problem in this resort island involving influential personalities. (PNA)
