Antique vies for Best Provincial Peace and Order Council National Award
San Jose, Antique – Antique vies for Best Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) National Award for 3rd to 1st class province for year 2006 said Rosario F. Maza, Provincial Director of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
Governor Salvacion Z. Perez in her message said that being a national finalist to the search for best PPOC inspired the province to continue its mission of achieving a peaceful and safe Antique as it moves onward toward excellence of service in local governance.
The PPOC validating team from the central office will come to Antique on January 29-31, 2008 to look into the accomplishments and best practices of the province in pursuing peace and order initiatives.
Among the institutions and projects to be visited are Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Police Stations, Fire Stations, Antique Rehabilitation Center and Disaster Response Team all in Antique’s capital town of San Jose. The Municipal Peace and Order Council of San Remigio will also present their best practices to the validating team.
The team will also visit Agro-Forestry and Livelihood Assistance Project for Barangays vulnerable to armed conflict, Rehabilitated Disaster Stricken Barangays and Gulayan ng Bayan in Barbaza, Muscovado Mill in Laua-an, Health Plus Project in Patnongon including the entry for Best Tanod both for Group and Individual Category and Nutrition Program in Belison.
Maza further said that Antique has been awarded Best PPOC in 2002 and 2003 and vows to sustain the functionality of the Local Peace and Order Councils in all levels.
The PPOC has a functional structure headed by Governor Perez as Chair with Vice Governor Rhodora Cadiao as Co-Chair while DILG and the Philippine Information Agency work together as Secretariat. Its members are SP Member on Peace and Order and heads of offices of various agencies like Departments of Justice, Social Welfare and Development, Public Works and Highways, Trade and Industry, Labor and Employment. Education. Health and Environment and Natural Resources, Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Governor Perez hopes that the competition will challenge the Antiquenos and its leaders to enhance excellence and increase competence in addressing peace and order issues towards preserving a peaceful and progressive province. (PS Mabaquiao/PIA)
