WV will get P5.1 B worth of projects from 2008 budget
Western Visayas will be getting P5.1 billion worth of projects from the total P1.227 trillion national budget that has been approved by the bicameral conference committee, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Director Rolando Asis said.
Asis said the P5.1 billion projects appropriated for the region this year include the construction, upgrading and rehabilitation of roads; flood control project; and construction of bridges.
He said that the P1.16 billion funding will go for the construction of roads to decongest traffic and address bottlenecks and the completion of the road network project from Aklan to Iloilo.
The P1.3 billion is allocated for the rehabilitation of damaged pavement roads while P600 million will go to the upgrading of gravel and cement.
The DPWH will also undertake this year the improvement of deteriorated asphalt road pavement and cemented road pavement projects from Iloilo to Capiz amounting to P264 million. The Altavas, Aklan to Jamindan, Capiz road network will also be funded with P70 million.
Twelve bridges under the Urgent Bridge Project amounting to P91.64 million will be constructed in Antique province.
Meanwhile, Asis said there will be P1.6 billion that will be sourced out from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation and the National Roads Improvement Management Projects of the World Bank for foreign-assisted projects such as flood control, highways, roads and bridges. (PNA)
