PNP awaits additional budget from GMA
The procurement of the Philippine National Police (PNP) of additional equipment for mobility, firepower, communication, and investigation is certain with the allocation of P1.3 billion of its budget this year. This, the Chief of the PNP, Police Director General Avelino I. Razon, Jr. announced recently on the occasion of the 17th PNP anniversary here at Police Regional Office 6, Camp Delgado, Iloilo City.
However, aside from the said budget, the PNP is also expecting a supplemental fund from the Office of President Arroyo for the acquisition of more utility vehicles, troop carriers, and motorcycles.
Razon said this February 6, when Camp Crame celebrates the 17th PNP Anniversary, the country's police force is expecting President Arroyo to issue another series of marching orders for the entire organization.
"Her guidance will be the direction of the whole command in pursuing our peacekeeping and law enforcement mission for the rest of the year," he said.
The PNP Chief takes the challenge of the national leadership as a tall order, "yet it is doable and necessary because the people deserve nothing less."
Razon, who assumed the post in October 1, 2007, has launched a basic institutional image program anchored on "Mamang Pulis," the quintessential good cop who is always ready to serve and protect the community.
The program aims to support the PNP's collective and firm resolve to push for reforms under the Integrated Transformation Program, along with the four-point program thrust in anti-criminality, anti-insurgency, anti-terrorism, and internal reforms.
In his report on his first 100 days as the country's Top Cop, Razon showed statistics that gives him confidence to bring back the old glory of the police force.(PO2 Francisco Lindero, Jr.)
