Rise of BPOs to bring P176 M payroll money
The rise of call centers in the city will bring economic prosperity with roughly P176 million in payroll for 22,000 call center agents. Iloilo City is one of the hotspot areas for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO).
Mayor Jerry Treñas said a starting call center agent normally receives P8,000 per month. If the 22,000 seats for the different call centers in the city is filled in, there will be payroll of P176 million. The purchasing capacity of the Ilonggo employees will increase.
Treñas said because of the income of 22,000 call agents, the multiplier effects will be felt by local businessmen who are into restaurant and spa, among others, which are preferred by call center agents to spend their money on.
Treñas is glad since Iloilo City is one of the areas in the city considered as "hotspot" for call centers other than Manila and Cebu in a study conducted by the Association of Call Centers in the Philippines. The study found that Iloilo City has the right facility and competent call center agents.
The mayor is working hard to assist the prospective call centers to invest in Iloilo City. He is set to attend a conference in Manila this week over the call center business in the country. Each city in the country is determined to encourage investors to be the site location of a call center.
