'Operation Timbang' in 61 Bacolod barangays ongoing
Bacolod City -- The annual "Operation Timbang" (OPT) among children aging 0 to 72 months (0 to 6 years-old) is now on-going in the 61 barangays of the city.
Urban Basic Services Division (UBSD) Project Development Officer II Femmy Rivera said the weighing started last month and will end in March.
Statistics will be processed to identify malnourished children. Data gathered will serve as basis for the INSUMIX (Indigenous Supplementary Mixture) feeding program to be funded by the city government and an NGO partner "Here's Hope."
About 55 Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) facilitate the weighing of more than 60,000 preschoolers with the help from health and barangay offices. They also take a lead role in the feeding program.
Last year, Barangays 13, Tangub and Mansilingan were chosen as the three barangays with the best nutrition program implementation with Pilar Gregorio as outstanding BNS. Delilah Estrella and Lelanie Emba were contenders in the award garnering 91% and 90.8%, respectively. (PIA-LOL)
