Issuance of new PUJ passes ordered
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has ordered the Traffic Management and Engineering Unit (TMEU) to issue new public utility jeepney (PUJ) and cargo passes that will be used starting March 1st, 2008 for all out-of- town PUJs that ply the city route.
In his executive order dated February 18th, Treñas said that the new passes are being issued to stop the proliferation of fake ones. The mayor also ordered the TMEU to distribute the passes to the respective federations or associations having existing permits based on TMEU's records.
Treñas emphasized that the new PUJ passes shall be given "without any fee or consideration in whatever form from the federation/association, drivers, operators, cargo owners and association members.”
About 800 passes will be issued to PUJ and cargo drivers belonging to some 39 associations.
The major differences between the old and the new passes include the form of printing, presence of a golden seal of the city and lamination.
Old passes will be considered cancelled and ineffective starting Saturday, March 1st.
The mayor also ordered the TMEU to pass a report regarding the distribution to his office and the Sangguniang Panlungsod through Councilor Erwin Plagata, chairman of committee on transportation, energy and public utility a month after. (PIO)
